Thomas Beveridge, CD

I am a Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management (MA DEM) candidate with a professional background in public policy, volunteer engagement, and emergency response coordination. In my community, I volunteer as a Medical First Responder.

My research interests in DEM focus on public policy, emerging technologies and their legal frameworks, mobility and disabilities in disasters, veteran supports in emergency response, and the intersection of homelessness and disasters. I also explore the rural-urban divide in disaster response capacity and governance.

My personal coat of arms, featuring a badge and motto, reflects my commitment to disaster management and problem-solving in high-pressure environments. In Latin my motto is, E mente confusio fundit (From the mind, pours confusion), is a pun that captures the complexity and unpredictability of disaster response and policy planning.

  • This evening, I had the opportunity to use the 2024 total solar eclipse as a case study in cross-boundary emergency management for the undergraduate course DPEM 00370 at Rowan University, New Jersey, hosted by Dr. Kimberly Carty. The solar eclipse was not only a natural hazard event, but a useful examaple for studying cross-boundary emergency management.
